"Innovation in Teaching" Mini-grants
What do math, science, agriculture, California history and healthy eating have in common? All have been subjects of projects funded by the California table grape industry’s “Innovation in Teaching” mini-grants. For the seventeenth year, California’s fresh grape farmers are offering ten mini-grants to teachers with innovative teaching ideas.
Since 1993, the "Innovation in Teaching" mini-grants have provided over $75,000 reaching more than 5,000 students in the Coachella and San Joaquin Valley farm communities. Past mini-grant awards include projects in a wide range of subject areas. For example, one award last year was used to purchase equipment and materials to conduct a hands-on project on plant growth and bee pollination. Additional funded projects include a solar energy race, a museum field trip and an interactive classroom store.
Mini-grant applications are due to the commission by January 27, 2010. The date has been extended from the original deadline of January 18. Applications can be emailed to info@grapesfromcalifornia.com or mailed to: California Table Grape Commission, 392 W. Fallbrook, Suite 101, Fresno, CA 93711. Attached is a letter to school districts and the mini-grant flyer and application for the 2009-10 school year.
